About the Course
Guided by **Liisa** Thomas, a law firm partner and long-time compliance and privacy practitioner, this program is designed for in-house lawyers and compliance professionals who want compliance to actually work in the real world—not just on paper. It combines short lessons with practical tools, templates, and exercises you can apply immediately inside your organization. If you answer yes to any of these, this course is for you: - You struggle to get leadership to see compliance as a business enabler rather than a cost center. - You are responsible for a wide range of legal obligations and want a clear, structured way to translate them into concrete actions. - You’ve inherited policies, trainings, and helplines, but aren’t sure how to pull them together into a coherent, effective program. - You are expected to “drive culture” and “manage change” around compliance, but have not been given practical guidance on how to do that. Rather than giving you another high-level overview of laws or a checklist of best practices, this course walks you through how to make compliance workable in four stages. In Module 1, you will learn how to connect your program to your company’s mission, understand what leadership actually cares about, recognize your own communication style and blind spots, and build allies so you are not doing this work alone. In Module 2, you will translate core legal risk areas—anti-bribery, insider trading, antitrust, workplace and safety, product and environmental rules, financial integrity, privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging AI obligations—into focused talking points and priorities for your organization. Module 3 shows you how to build or refresh the core elements of an effective compliance program: conducting risk assessments, developing codes and policies, overseeing third parties, designing training that people will complete (and remember), and clarifying board roles and responsibilities. Module 4 then focuses on guided change: how to start the change, keep it moving amid daily pressures, and institutionalize your new approach so compliance becomes part of how the business operates, not a one-time project. By the end of the course, you will have a more confident, structured way to talk about compliance with leadership, a clearer map of your legal obligations, and a practical toolkit for creating and sustaining programs that people understand, respect, and actually follow.
